2012 U.S. Elections...Mexicans may swing votes in Florida! Politicians to grovel?

United States of Mexicana

Sarah Palin scopes polling stations!

Americans across the country sat bolt upright in their armchairs this past week when a late-night news broadcast reported that in a scant few years - the Latino population in the United States - has tripled from 15 million to 50 million strong!

A smartly-dress political pundit proceeded to underscore that because of this immigrant trend, the chips may be stacked against potential candidates who don't kow-tow to the Mexican community's demands in Florida, for example, in the upcoming election in 2012.

Corrupt politicians - with connections in high places (think along the lines of  George W. Bush cronies) - aren't necessarily going to be able to snatch up the ticket without a tough fight in the final analysis.

If a politician wants to take the State (and bask in the glow of a victory) - whether Democrat or Republican - he (or she) is going to have to appeal to that sector of the community apparently.

Is President Obama above a little schmoozing, or does he also intend to reach out to the immigrants and an obvious force in the United States that is to reckon with now?

News at 11!

Diane Von Furstenberg...designs tote bag for Nancy Pelosi! UGLY fashion misstep!

Diane, stick to designer gowns like these!
(suitable for the 1st Lady)

When times are tough, the tough get going!

Especially in political circles when it comes to fundraising.

Nancy Pelosi is no slouch in that department.

In fact, Pelsoi - the Democrats' version of the folksy backwoods Queen (Sarah Palin) - has just reached out to fashion icon Diane Von Furstenberg to create a fashion accessory to kick off the political-social whirl with style.

"With everything Speaker Pelosi has done to move our country forward, I was more than happy to oblige," gushed Furstenbeg after unveiling a limited edition tote bag to be sold online to Democrats heading out on the campaign trail.

I interviewed Diane's husband - Prince Egon Von Furstenberg - years ago at the annual Men's Fashion Awards in Los Angeles.

Classy man!

Every dollar toward its purchase price will be used to support Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats "who are under increased attack by those who wish to take our country back to the policies of former President George W. Bush," the press release summed up.

The scuttlebutt has been negative in some chi-chi climbs around the political circuit.

"It's ugly," one fashion icon qupped in disgust.

"It's not even a great get," lamented an Internet surfer who wrinkled up their nose at the mere thought of lugging one around.

At a time when there is a cry all over the land about a lack of jobs and an ailing economy, critics are inclined to write the promotion off with disdain.

Jenny Crider, a spokesperson for the DCCC, remains optimistic.

"Diane von Furstenberg graciously designed a fun and functional canvas tote bag to celebrate Speaker Pelosi and women Members and candidates. The DCCC store has been inundated with requests for it."

The accessory sells for $65.00.

"If the tote bag's not your thing - we have plenty of pens, key chains, mugs or t-shirts - all made in America."

At long last, manufacturers are returng to America to stamp out product for the good old U of SA.

Will that be cash or I.O.U.?

Barack Obama...letter to moi touts accomplishments! DCCC seeks funds...

What do they say about foolin' the people?

When I trotted to the mailbox today, I was startled by an envelope which fell out of the box into my hands, with the name of President Barack Obama emblazoned on the front left corner.

Barack who?

Oh, that guy.

Was I being invited to the White House for an elegant formal dinner - and the opportuunity to hob-nob with the rich and powerful - just like those gate-crashers who wandered in under a blanket of twinkling stars as the moon hung ripe with promise in the night sky?

Naw!

Barack was just peddling for bucks!

But, I confess, he did some fancy pitching first - enough so - that I just about slipped a fiver into the return envlope with a hasty "Good luck, Barack" penned in an elegant scroll.

You never know where these precious scraps end up, after all.

Soft-soaping people (as my gramma would say) will go a long way to put folks in a right generous mood, so he started off with an affectionate pat on the back.

"Through your hard work, irrepressible voice and unflinching courage (!) we have put America firmly on the path to a brighter, more prosperous future."

Then, Barack moved on to heighten the stakes a tad.

In the first few well-written (persuasive) paragraphs, the President managed to cover a lot of ground.
"After years of struggle, every American is now guaranteed affordable health insurane that cannot be taken away when they get sick. Every American is covered by the toughest consumer protections in history, and every American will benefit from lower costs for care."

Sounds great to moi!

Then, Barack took a shot at the biggie!

"Our economy has begun to recover after the worst financial crisis in 75 years. Companies are beginning to hire, our neighbours are finding jobs,  and entrepreneurs are starting businesses to provide new goods and services."

Heh, Mr. President, do you expect that the portents are good for landing an executive-level post in development at one of the major studios right about now?

Maybe you could throw some seed money Hollywood's way to nurse it along?

Arnold would be forever grateful, 'ya know!

In addition, the Prez boasted about his achievements in the education arena.

"We have lowered the cost of college education, so that more Americans can gain the training and education they need to live happier, more productive and fulfilling lives."

So, that's what it takes to find peace of mind!

At this point, if I was uncertain about what Barack Obama was talking about when he spoke of "Change" on the campaign trail, he decided to enlighten me.

"When I talked about change in my presidential campaign, this is what I was talking about: coming together on behalf of the American people to solve problems and build a stronger more hopeful future for all."

Now, he moved in for the kill.

"However, the 2010 election season is upon us.  In less than six months, the American people will go to the polls for the Congressional midterm elections. Republicans leaders are campaigning (you don't say!) on a pledge to repeal these  accomplishments (those dirty basta**s!) and many others, if they gain majority control of Congress in November."

"We can't let that happen," he continued in a forthright manner.

"We have come too far. We have worked too hard to return to the failed Republican policies that created this mess in the first place"

The President proceeded to underscore that special interests have shaped the status quo in Washington, and that they are strong, and they are fighting tooth and nail to protect their privileged positions.

For this reason, the President urgeed that I and others join the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

"The DCCC has the technical expertise, political experience, and strategic perspective to lead the campaign to defend House Democrats. They also have an impressive record of success."

I trust none of the celebrated members weren't involved in any capacity in the BP oil debacle, then?

"With a strong Democratic majority in the House, we will continue to enact new initiatives and reforms to defend the middle class - to create millions of jobs, support small businesses, and drive  up wages. We will step up investments in the educaiton of our children and develop the clean energy technology that must power our future; and we will take the steps necessary to protect the economy from reckless Wall Street abuses."

Barack summed up with a directive right out of the Latin books:

"Let's seize this moment - to start anew, to carry the dream forward (which dream is that?). Stand with me, Speaker Pelosi, and the courageous Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives."

"Please support thier campaign with a generous contribution today."

Do you suppose they DCCC will take an IOU until I see how things pan out?

Joe Sestak...quote of day!

If you twist it this way...

In a bull sesssion this afternoon on a Network tabloid-style news show - pundits were tossing around their thoughts in respect to the Sestak dilemma and the issue of quid pro quo - when one correspondent had a sort-of Eureka! moment.

On the heels of a remark or two about Bill Clinton's alleged "overture" to Joe Sestak - the clever reporter offered up - what was undoubtedly the quote of the day.

"I guess the offer wasn't inhaled."

I did not offer that man a favor!

Sarah Palin...if Fidel Castro likes it? Queen of tea party attacks Obamacare...

What can I say?
(She gives me a boner)

At a rally today in Mesa (Arizona) feisty Queen of the Tea Party - Sarah Palin - stormed the stage and wasted no time launching full-frontal attacks on the "left", "the mainstream media", and even communist leader Fidel Castro!

It was either that time of the month, or Palin was - quite frankly - "mad as hell and not taking it anymore".

At the top of her speech - tirade? - the former gun-toting beauty Queen from the Great White North - didn't beat around the proverbial bush about the impact of the upstarts who have become known as the "Tea Party".

"It's a good thing," she hollered to a packed house of supporters (for the most part) who jumped to their feet and roared their approval.

At one point, when a heckler nearly pushed Sarah to the brink, she held back instead of lashing out and managed to avoid a nasty bit** fight.

After collecting her thoughts, she rustled up an invitation instead (tongue-in-cheek?).

"Stick around, Sir, You might learn something."

When the commotion persisted off-camera - and it appeared from Palin's reaction that supporters were interceding on her behalf in the bleachers - she huffed that it was okay for the individual to speak up.

"That's what America is all about, the right to protest."

I expect someone is cursing security in the aftermath of the embarrassing incident (in spite of the fact Sarah maintained her "cool").

The mere mention of "Obamacare" sent the audience into a tizzy.

Indeed, a loud groan signaled the disgust of tea party afficiandos in the auditorium.

"If Fidel Castro says it is a good thing, then something is wrong," she shouted out to supporters who responded with a raucous round of hoots and hollers.

At this juncture, a scuffle apparently broke out in the crowd, somewhere in front of the podium (off-camera).

"There you go again," she snipped with a touch of anger in her voice.

The incident was glaring enough to cause Palin to seize the opportunity to take pot-shots at the press.

"Now, if there was a fair mainstream media present that might be called violence."

In response to recent allegations over the past week that tea party members were engaged in violence she stressed that it was not the case.

"That's BS."

"We get involved," she added.

"We don't believe in violence."

She accused the Democrats of twisting and distoring the facts and "changing the focus".

Meanwile, John MCain stood behind Sarah Palin with a plastic look plastered all over his face.

Anxious to move on, Palin turned her thoughts to the candidate she was there to support in the upcoming primaries.

"John MCain spoke up. He didn't go with flow."

"Dead fish go with the flow," she quipped.

She's been killing them in Alaska for years, so she should know, eh?

"They say the tea party is the party of  'no'", she hissed.

"Party of 'no', what is wrong with that?"

In fact, she asserted in no uncertain terms, that John McCain was actually leading with "ideas".

"Become part of no?," she quizzed in an afterthought.

"How 'bout - "not just no" - but hell no!"

Sounded like a lot of do-do to me!

At this point, Sarah launched into her proud to be free, ra-ra America, mantra.

"We're not going to apologize for being American."

Before inviting McCain to the podium to address the supporters present, Palin compared the World War II Hero to Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater in what amounted to a glowing tribute.

At the mic John McCain gushed that Sarah Palin was simply magnificent.

To avoid the likelihood of throwing up all over the television I flipped the channel.

Talk about rhetoric!

Palin lip service!

TMZ...Harvey Levin to vote tea party! Octomom triggers switcherooo...

The glare of the spotlight turned on Harvey Levin tonight on TMZ when the O.J. Simpson afficionado lamented that he was going to go with the Tea Party!

Has the gossip referee on the popular mud fest finally warmed up to the swag-loving Queen of the party - Sarah Palin - or what?

Nope!

When a bit of scuttlebutt over Octomom's pending foreclosure became the subject of a gossip segment  - and some theorized the beleageured mom behind the eight ball might go for a bank loan to get herself out of the financial fix - he was livid.

The government bails out the banks with 1 Trillion Dollars.

Then, she gets a hand out?

"No way," he wailed in so many words.

"I'm going with the tea party," he exclaimed with a smug look of satisfaction on his face.

There must be something pretty potent in Harvey's cup to make his brain so fuzzy, eh?

Maybe he'll sober up in the morning!

Me?

I take a wide berth around the political terrain whenever possible.

In fact, when folks ask me if I am a Democrat or a Republican, I quip:

"I'm Canadian."

I'd rather focus on entertainment news (&  titillating gossip) - and grace my web pages instead - with sizzling hot bodacious babes (like super model Heidi Klum) and studly dudes like Kellam Lutz.

How 'bout you?

Bill O'Reilly...Factor host hails Tom Hanks a pin head! Pundits don't escape wrath...

Pin Head slight of day!

The other evening Fox's O'Reilly was quite adamant that Tom Hanks was a pin head.

Gosh, I've been wising folks up about the fact that life with the "Big" star is not a box of chocolates, whenever the puffy-looking dork takes the stage.

Frankly, Bill O'Reilly's jibes are more searing when he zeroes in on pundits he invites on the show to spout off about subjects they have failed to research or know little about.

O'Reilly doesn't take any prisoners in that regard.

Nope, without hesitation, he goes in for the kill.

For example, when an alleged female "analyst" appeared to discuss the pro's and con's of Barack Obama's Health Reform plan the other night, she goofed big time.

And, O'Reilly was there to jump on the gaffe, much to her chagrin.

When asked what were "three positive aspects" of the Health reform plan currently on tap, the twit stridently asserted that everyone would be forced to select a health plan.

What a ludicrous notion.

"It won't fly," O'Reilly stated matter-of-fact in so many words.

Oh it will, it will, she insisted as she arrogantly tossed back her head.

"It won't," he quipped, "because we have a U.S. Constitution."

The dizzy broad still didn't get it (and argued the point further to her detriment).

O'Reilly tried to explain that the government (even insurance companies) couldn't force people to buy a health plan (or participate in one).

In a nutshell, the whole concept was un-American, after all.

To save face, she quickly grappled with the dilemma, then offered up an off-point alternative.

"Well, they can't be denied insurance based on pre-exisitng medical conditions, then."

Typical of a handful of these big-mouthed "know-it-alls" - the dragon lady - was clueless.

The issues she was struggling to address, amounted to "oranges" and "apples", for heaven's sake.

Other guests faired just as poorly under the glare of O'Reilly's insightful spotlight.

Say what you will about O'Reilly, but the man has ba**s.

Tthat's why he's the King of the heap when it comes to getting to the nitty-gritty in the hardball realm of  dirty politics.

Bill Clinton...fundraising for Democrats! Fighting Tea Party extremist battle...

Didn't I spy another sawbuck in that wallet?

The Democrats have put Bill Clinton's considerable skills for rustling up money (the Bill Clinton Foundation is proof of the pudding boy's capabilities in that arena) to good use this week.

For example, this morning when I checked my snail mail, I stumbled across a fundraising letter with the former President's John Henry on its face, tucked neatly amidst a handful of bills screaming out to be paid.

Bill prefaced his bid for big buck donations by noting that the American people - faced with challenging times and a tough republican party - have to win victories.

"That's exactly what our Democrats in the House of Representatives have been doing - winning progress - for you and your family."

Mr. Clinton cited the passing of the economic stimulus package as a shining example.

"According to the Congressional Budget Office, it created new jobs, boosted the economy, and won the largest increase in College Aid in History," he noted smugly.

In addition, slick Willy boasted that the Democrats also won "comprehensive financial reform" to rein in Wall Street and protect consumers.

"And, they passed a health care reform plan that lowers costs, expands access, and protects consumers from delayed or denied coverage."

Jumping the gun a bit?

The Washington swashbuckler moved on.

"The upcoming 2010 mid-term election will be one of the most challenging and most expensive contests in  History. The Republicans are already in the field spending millions of dollars on attack ads ($60 million provided by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce &  "60 Plus" - a phony Senior Group - designed to mislead the public and misrepresent votes cast by courageous Democrats in support of President Obama's agenda for change)."

At this juncture, Mr.  Clinton noted that in order to push back the Republicans, funds were urgently needed for the Democrats' own full-frontal attack.

"The last thing we want is to let the Republican Party - a party that has been hijacked by "Tea Party" extremists - to gain seats in November. That means we have to defend every threatened Democratic seat and take away a few more Republican ones as well."

Why does money matter?

Bill gets to the point.

"Money matters because (the Democrats) have to protect an unprecedented number of seats in a mid-term election when, historically, the party in power loses seats."

"Money matters because we (the Democrats) are faced with a highly motivated opposition that seeks to demonize President Obama and everything for which the Democratic party stands for."

"Money matters because Republican special interests have a financial and ideological stake in preventing reforms that benefit the American people and will put their immense wealth behind Republicans who vote against reforms and try to depress Democratic turnout by aruging that , as the President says, we haven't cleaned up the mess they (Republicans) made fast enough."

On that note, Clinton urges that Democrats plop the cash down to:

*Help the DCCC provide urgently needed resources for Democrats who voted for your interests.

*Help the DCCC back candidates to challenge vulnerable Republicans who need to be held accountable.

*Help the DCCC deploy more field workers to refute every lie and distortion uttered by the opposition.

 Powerfully potent political stuff, eh?

Sarah Palin...$100 thousand tea party speech bid for Presidency! Nervous Ice Queen strikes chord...

Scarlett Lady appears at Tea Party Convention for big bucks!

The horse everyone was betting on trotted out of the gate and sped down the well-beaten track at a good pace for about twenty minutes or so, inspired a few heartfelt emotions that sent the frenzied ticket-holders to their feet roaring approval, then sadly stumbled and lost her way momentarily just before catching stride at the finish line.

Too late?

The event was much-ballyhooed.

Sarah Palin - fresh off a couple of scandals - stridently made her way out onto the stage amidst wild applause to deliver a key note speech with a $100,000.00 price tag at the Tea Party's first National Convention.

And, when you consider the cost to supporters, it was evident - that contrary to Palin's assertions - the high-profile event was not populist but elitist instead.

Attendees paid through the nose ($549 a pop) to sit up-front and egg the tarted-up broad on (do you suppose the clothes were rented once again?).

That, they sure as heck did.

On more than one occasion, a cross-section of American voters jumped to their feet, and vigorously flaunted their approval.

And, at the end of her speech, thunderous applause was followed by a chant that swept all up in the heady moment.

"Run Sarah. Run Sarah. Run Sarah. Run!"

Palin's second bite at the apple?

You betcha!

Frankly, I think she should let sleeping Polar Bears ly.

The perky little bundle of energy started off the night's farce with a round of thanks and got tea party tottlers all  warm and tingly inside when she used a myriad of hokey moments laced with soppy sentimentality to lure everyone into the fold.

"God Bless America. It's Great to be an American," she shouted out to the effervescent supporters.

"Do you love Freedom," she quizzed the excited throngs in the packed house.

"I salute all the men in uniform."

When servicemen in the crowd responded with a boisterous roar, she beamed.

"Thank you."

Tongue in cheek, the former Alaskan Governor welcomed C-Span.

"You weren't invited to the Health reform summits, but glad to have 'ya here," she sang out like a cheerful little songbird.

The spitfire facilitated all the gimmicks within her greedy grasp to nab the attention of folks from the heartland who tend to wear the old red white and blue on their sleeves.

In a nutshell, the Republican icon described tea party advocates as real people (not politicos, oh no!) with common sense conservative principles

Out-of-the blue she cried out enthusiastically:

"Happy Birthday, Ronald Reagan."

Do you suppose she knows he's dead?

Of course, she would have been remiss in her duties if she neglected to thank the TP's host city.

Nashville has sweeter tea, she teased, after noting Alaska sipped on their own brand of Ice Tea.

Judging  from the response of the locals, something mind and mood altering must have been surreptiously slipped into the mix.

Drunk with adoration?

When Palin gave kudos to Scott Brown, she melted into a gooey-eyed teen with a schoolgirl crush.

"He was just a guy with a truck (and a  penchant for posing nude) who realized one day that things were not right."

She theorized it was the grass roots route that landed him in the Senator's seat in Massachusetts.

And, shortcomings on the part of the Democrats, that cinched the deal.

Washington needs to stop lecturing and start listening, she undersccored to the hyped-up crowd below the floodlights, with an obvious sly reference to Barack Obama and his methodology.

In fact, she boldly accused Obama, Pelosi, and Reid of being involved in an agenda that was out-of-touch.

"There are big problems around this country," she cried out with passion.

At this juncture, a quiver in her voice revealed that she was - in fact - nervous.

Perhaps that is why she raced through the speech - in a running-off-at-the-mouth kind-of-style - without stressing any of the salient points with a hand gesture, for instance, which may have rustled up a smidgen of eloquent drama often achieved by the greats such as former President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King.

Suddenly, without warning, a lack of reading and comprehension skills interrupted her flow (and crediblity) as she headed down to the finish line.

It turned out to be a dead give-a-way.

For example, on two or three unfortunate occasions, she tripped up when words failed to flow trippingly off the tongue.

In fact, as she attempted to regain balance and composure, it was obvious to moi that Palin was not the sole author of the speech!

Clearly, she contributed a couple of folksy quips, but the bulk of the attention-getter was obviously put together by a clever speech writer out to tie up all the loose strings required to deliver up a neat and tidy package.

The invisible hand behind-the-secnes whipped up a couple of notions that resonated.

For instance, McCain's former running mate noted that politicians with the best ideas, would surely win out.

In that regard, she noted that a candidate should put their faith in their ideas and realize that  in the final analysis, the Tea Party was not a top-down operation but a ground-up call to action.

Palin also focused on "the people" a lot.

"This is about the people," she assured the attentive audience in one segment of the speech.

"People have to change the way of doing business in Washington," she predicted for the future.

In a slap at Obama, she elaborated that a charismatic guy with a teleprompter wasn't going to cut it.

In contrast, she hailed Tea Party members who got involved - went to town hall meetings - penned op eds, etc.

Right on cue, she criticized the political double-talk.

Palin thought it disingenuous that the war was referred to by the Democrats as an overseas contigency operation (which sucked big time to her).

"National security has to call it the way it is."

At this juncture, she leapt into full-frontal attack on the events of Christmas-day past.

Security did not work!

Palin got quite a reaction when she expressed her annoyance over one particular aspect in the aftermath.

"Before the terrorist was interrogated, he seized on our 1st Amendment Rights, and pled the fifth," she raged in so many words.

In what amounted to a low blow, Palin hurled a biting criticism in the President's direction, that must have stung.

"We need a commander-in-chief - not a professor of Law - standing at the lecturn."

APPLAUSE!

The keynote speaker sequed into the issue of foreign affairs momentarily, too.

"We need a policy so that we can recognize friends from enemies."

Although many politicians are afraid to broach touchy subjects (which may lose votes) Palin had no qualms stating for the record that Iran should be sanctioned.

The shop-a-holic (keen on blowing other people's wads) quoted Barry Goldwater at one point.

"We're not conquered just by bombs, but also neglect."

American must stand with peoples and democracies which reflect our values and interests - was one comment - that touched a chord also.

"Foreign policy is not about resolving personalities."

APPLAUSE!

How about winning popularity contests?

That is right up the former Ice Queen's hunting trail.

Norm's Restaurant...the pulse of American heartbeat! Artery-clogging chow...

Years ago, Norm's restaurant used to be the place to drop into for breakfast in WeHo.

There were fringe benefits, after all.

Just next door, a stream of hot body-builders flowed through Todd Tramp's gym for concentrated work-outs daily, then usually ended up at Norm's next door for a plate of chow.

Yes, the eye candy was enough to make the senses swoon!

Norm's is well-known for its breakfast combos - one of which, the Four Deuces - consists of two fluffy pancakes, two eggs (as you like 'em) and double portions of bacon strips (crispy!) and sausage links (real greasy, dudes!).

The T-bone steak 'n eggs special (teamed with a side order of biscuits and gravey) is a popular special, too, at reasonable cost.

Truckers, pensioners, and grunt workers pop in often - in part due - to the generous servings and a bottomless coffee jug (with the worst watered-down java in town).

Of course, the high-calorie vein-clogging bill-of-fare here, was always a no-no for the jocks and the lifters from Tramp's gym, especially when they were in training for an upcoming competition.

The fat-conscious buffed dudes were more inclined to gobble up scrambled eggs made with whites only, cottage cheese, fresh fruit of the season, and lean entrees that provided nutrition and energy.

Smart body fuel, in the final analysis.

Unfortunately, when Tramp's gym was shut-down, the passing parade moved on.

If a hungry dude saunters into Norm's Restaurant on La Cienega Blvd these days, he'll likely notice right-off-the-bat, the once-thriving fiftie's-style diner is a pretty dismal eatery to alight in during the course of the day and into the early evening.

After midnight, when nightclubs are in full swing up and down the club strip, things can still get frenzied and lively though.

Occasionally, when I am in Santa Monica, I'll drop in to the location on Lincoln Boulevard for a bite to eat.

My waistline can tolerate the food offered up provided it is not on a regular daily or weekly basis.

If you want to know what middle America is thinking, or are inclined to check the pulse of the common Joe, just listen in on one of the coversations going down at the counter at Norm's.

Yesterday, I sat there amused, as I took in all the banter these working stiffs were offering up.

"I know you're a democrat. So,  'ya won't mind at all if I knock  George Bush," one dude chortled to a rapt audience hanging on every word.

"He belongs in jail," another quipped.

"And, not even a good one. One in Yemen," he added with a dash of glee as a ubiquitous gold chain caught the early morning sun and sent a million little rainbows this way 'n that.

In response, another rabble-rouser levelled an insult at the former President, too.

"Bush is a Nazi."

The diners roared in response.

I was quite surprised to hear one man admit that he actually voted for George W.

Americans smear Bush a lot, but rarely ever admit they put an x by his name, first time out at the polling booth.

Curious, because he got into office, didn't he?

Someone must have voted for the man.

"Reagan was just as bad. He ruined the Unions," another man piped in when the laughter subsided a tad.

The saviour, Barack Obama, did not escape criticism either.

After a brief conversation about Social Security and Benefits - and a spirited discussion about collecting SS checks early - one dude accused Obama of the unthinkable.

"He's dipping into Social Security to pay the bills. You'd better collect now because the money may not be there when you retire," another cynic joked.

Chances are if they continue to eat the high cholesterol blue-plate specials at Norm's, they'll  keel over and die of a heart attack long before then.

I don't know if it was a tall tale - or an exaggeration - but one toothy overweight driver boasted that he was pulling in $110,000.00 a year (plus) delivering packages for UPS (or was it Fedex?).

Pretty good pay for unskilled grunt work, eh?

At this point, someone recognized me at my perch across the counter, and a little bit of whispering started up all around me.

As they grew silent (worried that I might quote them?), I realized I'd gleened all that I could for posterity's sake.

So, I headed out, with a grin on my face.

Yup.

Norm's, is a piece of Americana, where you can check the pulse of the heartbeat of the Nation.

The period architecture is worth taking a gander at, too.

Barack Obama...heckled by Congressman during Healthcare speech. Insurance for Illegal immigrants? Not...

Barack is no Martin Luther King Junior, Sir!

In the wake of a rude outburst by a Congressman during Barack Obama's much-anticipated speech to the Nation last night on the Healthcare issue - today, in the cold light of day - Republicans and Democrats alike are denouncing the impromptu rebellion as an "extraordinary breach of decorum".

In the midst of asserting to critics that under his intended plan, insurance would not be available to illegal immigrants, the President was cut-short by Representative Joe Wilson who taunted from the bleachers below:

"You lie!"

For Obama-haters, it was a precious moment.

Caught off-guard - and in the obvious throes of mixed emotions - the President had no other recourse but to react with a hilarious "classic" double-take.

Nope, it wasn't a "say what?" moment, at all.

Imagine that, Barack Obama - "old diarrhea mouth" - at a loss for words!

Not a problem for Joe Biden, though, who issued a statement on the heels of the controversy.

"I was embarrassed for the chamber and a Congress I love," Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday on ABC's "Good Morning America."

"It demeaned the institution."

Meanwhile, House Minority Whip (Eric Cantor R-Va)  was quick to stress that the rude interruption was inappropriate and did not reflect the sentiments of the party.

"Obviously, the President of the United States is always welcome on Capitol Hill. He deserves respect and decorum."

Rep. Joe Wilson contacted the White House in a bold-faced effort to apologize to the President personally.

When Obama failed to take the call (for reasons undetermined at press time) Wilson managed to get a word or two in edgewise with the White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanue.

According to sources, he apologized.

When asked about the mea culpa, Biden said Thursday, that he hadn't spoken with Obama

"Knowing the president, I'm sure he accepted the apology."

The Republican rebel released the following terse statement to the media.

"This evening I let my emotions get the best of me."

"While I disagree with the president's statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, appeared to be the only sensible politician with her wits about her in the aftermath

"It's time for us to talk about health care, not Mr. Wilson," she quipped to anyone within earshot.

On a nightly news show, an English pundit from across the pond - not only laughed about the incident - but shook her head over the way politicians, the media, and Joe Public alike reacted to the alleged controversy.

"They're always heckling the Prime Minister in England," she giggled.

Hear! Hear!

Well, at least Wilson didn't toss a shoe!

The ultimate insult, eh?

Sarah Palin...butt of RSVP joke! Revolving door politics don't fly...

Something fishy goin' down in Wash DC

According to Jon Vogel, DCCC Executive Director, Sarah Palin is a Capitol Hill joke, again!

"Sarah Palin. She's In, She's Out, She's back in, " he chortled with glee in a dismissive missive the party (Democrat) fired off to fundraisers and supporters bright and early this Tuesday morn.

After all, there was much to celebrate!

A whirlwind (mostly wind) of activity at last night's "big money" fundraising dinner with Newt Gingrich, kept key players dizzy playing the guessing game.

How much moolah would they rake in?

Naw, that was neither here nor there.

The tongues were wagging over Sarah Palin - the Ice Queen - once again!

Palin - after being invited, then disinvited, then re-invited (not re-invented, though) - back-biting pundits were inclined to hold their collective breaths on the sidelines.

Headline or by-line?

Would the Dragon Lady from the (uh) frozen white North manage to manipulate her way into the big top in spite of her fall from Grace way back when?

Yup!

The corridors of power swung the doors open wide for her.

But, why?

Were the power-brokers behind the scenes desperate for a distraction in the wake of the Newt "Sotomayor" debacle?

News at 11!

Barack Obama...last chance to dine with President June 18th! Contribute 5 bucks or more...

Looks like some of the Clinton "style" has rubbed off on the Barack Obama team!

Like slick Willy & wily Hilly before him, Barack is now rustling up campaign schemes to generate big bucks in the Washington arena.

Why not a chance-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dine with "King Tut" himself?

And, on this occasion, James Carville has been trotted out to orchestrate the fundraiser - natch - on the democrat-favored World Wide Web.

Here's a peak an e-mail invitation I just recently from the Obama camp (verbatim) to get you up-to-speed.

Dear Julian,

Just when I thought I've seen everything...

The Republicans have dragged out Newt Gingrich to headline a fundraising dinner.

President Obama and the Democratic Party are leading this country into the future.

Let the has beens and never weres in the Republican Party fight among themselves.

We want you to join us for a different kind of dinner.

No Newts allowed.

There is less than a week for your chance to win a free trip to Washington, DC on June 18th to meet President Obama, have dinner and go home with a photograph with him.

The dinner is on June 18th and the deadline to enter is less than a week away.

Enter now - the more times you give the more chances to win.

Contribute $5, $10, or more and be automatically entered for a chance to win a free trip to Washington DC to join President Obama on June 18th, and go home with a photograph with the President.

Sincerely,

James Carville

P.S. Even if you don't win coming to Washington to have dinner with the President, if you contribute $35 or more, you get a free "Proud Democrat" eco-friendly grocery tote. Act now - the deadline is less than a week away!

A tote that's eco-friendly?

Golly, you suckered me Barack, hook line & sinker.
Count me in!

Oprah, better pass on this high calorie pig-out!

Barack Obama...quote of the day!

A political pundit joked the other day on National Television that God created the earth in a mere seven days - at which point - he took a jab at Barack Obama in what amounted to the quote of the day.

"The new Messiah in Washington hasn't managed to accomplish much in sixty."

Medical Marijuana...para-military-style raids by DEA "Not American Policy" says U.S. Attorney General!

At long last, the new Democrats in the Oval Office are getting up to speed on the DEA raids issue.

Thick-headed agents at the Law Enforcement Agency have been flies in the ointment for the past six months or so - in spite of the fact Court Rulings in favor of the compassionate use of Medical Marijuana in the State of California - have gone forward in leaps and bounds.

Although all legal challenges on court calendars around the State were resolved - after all, the last ruling handed down by the California Supreme Court set a precedent which dictates that the compassionate use of Medical Marijuana is now legal in California - the DEA continued to terrorize pot dispensaries - and likewise - harass medical marijuana patients in violation of the State Law.

An aggressive campaign to inform the President about the heinous acts of the DEA - and a bold-faced attempt by supporters of Medical Marijuana to urge Barack Obama to take a stand publicly regarding the illegal para-military-style DEA raids in recent weeks - finally paid off.

At a press conference last week, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder told reporters that it is now American policy not to intefere with State medical cannabis laws or allow any DEA raids on dispensaries spearheaded by overjealous agents.

Americans for Safe Access, a non-profit organization that has been tirelessly working on behalf of the legal rights of medical marijuana patients in recent years, was one of the leading organizations in the country pushing for an end to this interference.

In the final analysis - telephone calls to the White House and heartfelt letters to the President - garnered the positive outcome which unfolded last week in Washington, D.C.

Seventy-two million Americans live in states where medical cannabis is legal, but federal law prohibits its use under any circumstances.

And, more than 100 Americans are currently facing prosecution, sentencing, or serving time in prison for medical cannabis offenses right now, according to ASA spokesperson George Pappas.

ASA hopes the emerging change in federal policy will signal an end to prosecutions and bring those already serving time for medical cannabis offenses home to their families.

"There has been a lot of collateral damage in the federal campaign against medical marijuana patients," said Steph Sherer, Executive Director of Americans for Safe Access.

"We need to stop the prosecutions, bring the prisoners home, and begin working to eliminate the conflict between state and federal medical marijuana laws."

ASA provided recommendations for a new national medical cannabis policy to President Obama and the 111th Congress earlier this year.

The staff at ASA pray that because a U.S. President was willing to listen to science and take seriously the suffering of medical marijuana patients, that on the heels of the announcement by Holder, that there will now be an increase in state level action around the country.

Amen!

Ailments alleviated by Medical Marijuana
